What to include on your contact page

Importance of an effective contact page

An effective contact page on your website is crucial for visitors to reach out to you easily. It acts as a direct line of communication between you and your audience, making it simple for them to ask questions, give feedback, or even inquire about your services.

You may be tempted to think that you don’t need a contact page or a way for people to fill out a form to email you. Perhaps you think a book-a-call page is sufficient but you would be surprised at how many potential customers would rather email you. It feels like less of a commitment perhaps. I would argue that a contact page is one of the most crucial pages to getting client leads through your website.

A well-designed contact page can enhance user experience and increase the likelihood of converting visitors into potential leads or customers. Always ensure that your contact page includes essential information like a contact form, your email address, phone number, and social media links for seamless interaction.

Contact details to include

Make sure your contact page has essential details like your email address, phone number (if your business works like this), and physical address (if you are a physical location business or a service-provider that provides local services). It's also a good idea to include links to your social media profiles for easy access.

Highlight your preferred method of contact so visitors know how to reach you quickly. Remember, the easier it is for people to get in touch with you, the better!

Make sure that you have your email address listed in addition to your contact form in case people don’t want to fill out the contact form and just email you directly.

Benefits of adding a contact form

Adding a contact form to your website makes it easy for visitors to get in touch with you and also makes it easy to get the basic information you need from them to further the sales process and/or relationship. It helps filter messages and ensures you receive relevant inquiries. With a contact form, you can customize fields to gather specific information, making it easier to understand each visitor's needs. It also provides a professional touch to your website, showing that you are open to communication and interested in hearing from your audience.

Creating a compelling call-to-action

A compelling call-to-action on your contact page encourages visitors to take a specific action, like reaching out for more information or making a purchase. Here are some tips to create an effective call-to-action:

  • Make it clear and concise

  • Use action-oriented language

  • Provide a reason to act, such as a special offer or benefit

  • Use contrasting colors to make it stand out on the page

For your contact form, keep it short and sweet. Only the information you need to take the next step with them. You can always send potential clients a more in-depth form to fill out as they get further in your sales process. People don’t want to commit lots of time to a simple contact form. If you make it too long and complicated, they will just skip reaching out to you altogether.

By following these tips, you can increase engagement and conversions on your contact page.

Incorporating social media links

Including links to your social media profiles on your contact page can make it easier for visitors to connect with you on various platforms. By adding icons or text links to your pages on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn, Youtube, etc. you provide visitors with multiple ways to engage with your content. This can help you grow your online presence and interact with your audience beyond your website. Remember to keep these links updated to ensure seamless communication with your visitors.

Using maps for directions

If you are a physical location business, your contact page should include a map for directions to make it easier for visitors to find your location. A map helps users visualize where your business is situated, making it more accessible for them to reach you. Google Maps is a popular choice for embedding maps on websites due to its user-friendly interface and accurate directions. Squarespace has the option to embed a map right into your page. You can customize the map to match your website's style for a seamless integration. By incorporating a map on your contact page, you enhance user experience and increase the chances of attracting more visitors to your physical location.

FAQs and additional information

Got customer questions that keep popping up? Your contact page is the perfect spot to address frequently asked questions, or FAQs. (You don’t need to clutter up your navigation with a page called FAQs.) Providing additional information such as your operating hours, contact details, and any unique policies can help reduce inquiries and enhance customer satisfaction. Be proactive by including clear and concise answers to common queries to streamline customer interactions.

Optimizing for mobile users

Make sure your contact page is mobile-friendly by keeping forms simple and easy to fill out on small screens. Consider using a click-to-call button for quick access and making sure all text is large enough to read without zooming in. Mobile users tend to appreciate a separate section for your contact information to save time scrolling. A clean and straightforward design will help mobile users find and reach out to you effortlessly.

Building trust through testimonials

Testimonials on your contact page can help build trust with visitors. Include positive feedback from previous clients to show that others have had good experiences with your service or product. Personal anecdotes can make your testimonials more compelling and authentic. Real names and photos of the clients giving the testimonials add credibility. Quantity and diversity of testimonials can also enhance trustworthiness. Keep them up to date and relevant to give new visitors a sense of satisfaction and confidence in your offerings.

Encouraging feedback and inquiries

Having a contact page on your website is crucial for encouraging feedback and inquiries from your visitors. My contact page is one of the most visited pages on my website and inquiries are filled out regularly through it.

By making it easy for people to reach out to you, you can gain valuable insights and establish better connections with your audience. Here are a few tips to encourage feedback and inquiries on your contact page:

  • Clearly display your contact information, including an email address and possibly a physical address

  • Consider adding a contact form for visitors to fill out with their questions or comments.

  • Use welcoming language to invite people to get in touch with you. (A smiling picture of you also makes it more welcoming)

  • Promptly respond to any inquiries or feedback you receive to show that you value your visitors' input. We like to say on the contact page when they can expect a response. For example, within 48 business hours.
