How to Create a Link in Bio Page within your Squarespace Website
Today we are going to show you how to ditch your Link Tree monthly expense and create a Link in Bio page (for free!) within your very own Squarespace website.
We all know that Instagram is a wonderful platform for all entrepreneurs and business owners and we are a big propionate of using your social media platforms to send traffic to your website. The Instagram platform only allows you to have one link in your Instagram bio. A lot of times people get around this by using a third party service like Link Tree. The good news is you don’t need to pay Link tree to do it.
What is a Link in Bio landing page?
You may have heard of Link Tree or the countless other third party services out there that are similar. Essentially a Link in Bio landing page allows you to have multiple links with your Instagram bio link. Instagram only allows you to have one link in your profile but many times businesses want to point their audience to multiple specific links. Remember, Instagram is not capable of clickable links within an actual post. So instead of users expecting their audience to manually type in a massively long URL sting, they will often times say “link in bio” within their post captions. This encourages the viewer to hop over to the person’s Instagram profile and click on the clickable link in their bio. Now remember, you are only allowed one link and instead of having to update this link each time you post, people invest in a third party service like Link Tree that allows them to have use that one link to point to a landing page with multiple links to click on pertaining to their posts.
For example, the post on the left is pointing people to a specific blog post on our website and the post on the right is pointing people to a specific template sales page.
Benefits of Creating a Squarespace Link in Bio page
There are obvious benefits to creating your own link in bio page within your Squarespace website. The fact that it is FREE and easy is enough to convince most people, but here are some more reasons, just for kicks and giggles.
You are not limited within your Squarespace website. Often times you have to upgrade from a free account to be able to brand your link in bio page. But when you create your Link in Bio page in your own Squarespace website, it will automatically be on brand. You also won’t be limited to the amount of links you can have. Take a look at the difference between a free Link tree account that is plain and off brand and our link in bio page within our own Squarespace website.
Less logins to remember when you don’t have third party services for extra things.
You can get more creative within a Squarespace Link in Bio page. You are not confined to just using buttons.
Why pay for an extra service when you can do it really easily (I’m talking within 10 minutes) and for free on your own website?!
HOW TO CREATE A FREE LINK IN BIO LANDING PAGE ON SQUARESPACE
All of our Squarespace templates come with an Instagram link page. However, today I am going to teach you how to easily and quickly make one of your own Instagram Link in Bio pages with your Squarespace website.
Watch this short tutorial below to watch how to set up your very own Instagram Link In Bo Landing page on your Squarespace Website… for FREE! (We also have the steps listed out below the video.)
STEP 1: CREATE A NEW PAGE IN YOUR NOT-LINKED SECTION AND NAME IT INSTAGRAM
Within your pages menu in your Squarespace website, click the “+” sign to the right of the “Not Linked” section and select “blank page”. Name the page “Instagram” or something that makes sense to you when you look at the back end of your website.
STEP 2: PLAN OUT YOUR BUTTONS AND LINKS YOU WILL NEED
These will look different for each business. For example, a blogger might have a button for each featured or popular blog on his/her website while someone like us will have a button for their entire blog (instead of splitting it up). Keep in mind whatever buttons you create will need to coordinate with what you are posting on Instagram. It is super easy to go in and edit these later if you want to make changes or add to it.
STEP 3: ADD IN THE CONTENT
First, upload the same image that is your Instagram bio image and crop it into a circle. This just lets the viewer know they are in the right place. You can easily crop the image into a circle in Squarespace. We show you exactly how to do this in the video above.
Next, state who you are, what you do and how you can help someone visiting so they know they are in the right place. This should match your Instagram bio.
Lastly, create the buttons and link them to the correct website page or external link. Make sure to label the buttons exactly what they are so people know what it is they are clicking on.
IMPORTANT* Make sure you are checking this in the mobile view since people will be viewing this page on their mobile device.
STEP 4: TURN IT INTO A LANDING PAGE BY HIDING THE HEADER AND FOOTER.
Landing pages are just that, a page where people can land and not be distracted by a full site navigation. We need to hide the header and footer with just a little bit of code but I promise, if you can copy and paste, you can do this. Copy the code that pertains to you from below and click on the gear icon on your Instagram page you are working on. Click on the “Advanced” tab and paste the code.
If you are in Squarespace 7.1, copy and paste this code into the advanced section of your Link in Bio page:
<style>
#header, footer {
display: none!important;}
</style>
If you are in Squarespace 7.0, copy and paste this code into the advanced section of your Link in Bio page:
<style>
.Header, .Footer, .Mobile-bar{
display:none !important;
}
</style>
Watch the video above to see exactly where to copy and paste this code.
STEP 5. CREATE THE URL SLUG AND LINK IT TO YOUR INSTAGRAM PROFILE
Hover over your Instagram page within the not-linked section and click on the gear icon that pops up on the right. Once you click on that, you will see the URL slug section. Type in what you want this to be. This will be the words that come after the forward slash of your domain name. For example our URL slug is “/learn-more”. This means that the URL we put into our Instagram bio is “www.carbonandclay.co/learn-more”.
Edit your Instagram bio page and test out the link! You will want to hop over to your phone and double check all your buttons and links go to the right pages.
Make sure to Update this page as you create new freebies and events, etc! For example, when we run a webinar event, we make sure that our webinar registration page is the top button for people to register on our Link in Bio page.
That’s a Wrap!
Now instead of constantly sending people to just your website and hoping they navigate to the right place to find what they are looking for, we can create a Link in Bio landing page within your Squarespace site for FREE!
