Why Every Website Needs a Blog or Podcast

Integrating a blog or podcast into your website can significantly benefit both SEO (being found on Google)and user engagement (keeping people on your site for as long as possible). No matter your industry or expertise, I encourage all of my clients and template purchasers to consider blogging regularly.

In the ever-evolving digital landscape, one thing remains constant: the power of engaging content. As websites strive to captivate their audience's attention and climb the ranks on search engines, integrating a blog or podcast has become a crucial strategy. Let's dive into why having a blog or podcast is not just an option but a necessity for a website’s success.

Blogging on your website enhances SEO

Producing regular and quality content is going to tell Google to pay attention to your site as the go-to expert in your industry.

  • Regularly updated, high-quality content signals to search engines that your website is relevant and active.

  • Incorporating keywords naturally within your blog posts or podcast titles and descriptions can significantly improve how often you are found on Google.

  • Moreover, valuable content often attracts backlinks (other people linking to your site) from other reputable sites, further boosting your website's authority and visibility.

When you think about what keywords you want to use throughout your blog post, think about what your current ideal target audience are searching for. Remember, blogging is not just about a personal story about what you did on Monday - it is meant to be searchable content that helps your target audience solve a pain point, give them a small win or educate them. It is meant to show that you know what you are talking about.

There is nothing wrong with adding in antidotes throughout to make it more personal and be relatable, but if you’re whole blog post is about your Christmas morning, no one is going to find that when they are searching on Google. However, if you blog about 3 ways to have a clean house with your kids home from the holidays and include your Christmas morning story in the post, that is searchable and useful. See the difference?

How Frequently should I be blogging for seo?

Consistency for blogging is key. Establishing a content calendar and sticking to a regular publishing schedule (be it weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly) helps maintain audience engagement and sets expectations for both the Google bots and your audience. A consistent flow of fresh content keeps your website relevant and encourages return visits from followers.

I suggest starting slow, like once a month and then making sure that after 3 months of consistently doing that, you make it twice a month. I like to keep a Google Doc of a running list of ideas to blog about. These ideas may come from questions I get from my email list or social media following. If one person has that question, there is almost certainly other people wondering and searching for the answer to the same question as well.

How Skimmable and Engaging Content affects how well your blog posts perform.

Readable, skimmable content is essential in an era where attention spans are fleeting.

  • Break up your content with headings, subheadings, bullet points, and bold text to make it easily digestible.

  • Complement your text with visuals like images, infographics, or videos to add depth and appeal to your content. We live in a fast paced world. People want to be able to skim the text and find what they are looking for as soon as possible. It is very unlikely someone is reading the entire blog post.

Blogging can encourage engagement and audience Interaction on your Website.

A blog or podcast is more than just a platform for information; it's a tool for community building.

  • Encourage comments, feedback, and social media sharing to foster a sense of belonging among your audience.

  • Incorporate interactive elements like polls, quizzes, or calls-to-action to spark engagement and interaction.

In conclusion, integrating a blog or podcast into your website is not just about creating content; it's about cultivating a thriving online presence. It's about positioning yourself as an authority in your niche, improving your SEO, and most importantly, engaging with your audience on a deeper level.
